How are the schools in Big Bear Lake?

Anyone else feel this way? I grew up here but left for a while. Crime rate is something to consider -Big Bear Lake sits at 854.7 per 100K. With a population of 5,038, Big Bear Lake is a small town. Homes are going for about $517,900 on average. Median household income is $74,728, which feels about average for the area. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I overthinking this? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. I've lived in Springfield for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
- The traffic scene is solid

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 1 years. Moved from LA for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is average - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Homeless population growing downtown. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is excellent in most areas.

I work in tech here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is better than expected. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
