Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Houston about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is tough.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much pricey but now it's decent.

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great sushi places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Pine Hills area are decent. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 6 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into running, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
