Been meaning to ask this. We have two kids and Household incomes average around $70,532 in Big Spring. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Thoughts? The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Moved here from Chicago about 9 years ago. I love the pace of life here. Still getting used to traffic but Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Bought a house here in 2019 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Minneapolis about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (South) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 5 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- The nightlife scene is solid
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

Came here for work and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The walkability is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
