I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Raleigh about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is underrated in most areas.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Greenfield area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 9 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Westside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong sense of community
- The traffic scene is average
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Portland it's decent.

Came here for school and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The walkability is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.
