Should I move to Blacklake or stay in Chicago?

So, Household incomes average around $99,191 in Blacklake. With a population of 1,122, Blacklake is a small town. Rent is about $3,203/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Raleigh about 8 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is improving.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..
