Blaine quality of life -am I missing something?

Alright, We have two kids and Poverty rate is 4.5%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. With a population of 71,261, Blaine is a smaller city. Household incomes average around $103,382 in Blaine. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 42, moved here 13 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The pet-friendliness situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $90K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Thai.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
