OK so I grew up here but left for a while. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. Homes are going for about $212,500 on average. Household incomes average around $80,142 in Blanchard. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Anyone in a similar situation? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Riverside. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in government. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Hope this helps!.

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Fairview side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a sales manager, 50, moved here 4 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Westside and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The healthcare situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a data analyst and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Oak Park area are excellent. Kids love it here.
