Moving to Bloomington -what should I know?

With a population of 24,324, Bloomington is a small town. Household incomes average around $81,220 in Bloomington. Crime rate is something to consider -Bloomington sits at 319.9 per 100K. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Should I be concerned? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- The job market scene is decent

The downsides:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in marketing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

No regrets on my end..
