Longtime lurker here, Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. With a population of 24,324, Bloomington is a small town. It's a a small town city with about 24,324 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Bloomington sits at 319.9 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What do you all think? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in West area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely better than expected and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Sunset) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
