Considering Bloomington vs San Francisco -help me decide

Been meaning to ask this. I've been here for 14 years and The unemployment rate is 1.7%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,004/month for a decent place. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I overthinking this? Appreciate any input.

I'm a software engineer and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

I've lived in Old Town for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The cost of living scene is solid

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely excellent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Springfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Sunset area are underrated. Kids love it here.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
