I'm originally from Raleigh and Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much reasonable but now it's underrated.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Boston about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

I work in retail here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is challenging. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I work in hospitality here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is average. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
