Raising a family in Bloomington -thoughts?

Hey everyone, Been living here since 2021. You can expect to pay around $1,526 for rent here. Household incomes average around $90,677 in Bloomington. The median home value here is around $346,200, which seems about average. Homes are going for about $346,200 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools
- Low taxes
- Good internet infrastructure
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited nightlife
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Boring for young people
There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Uptown side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- The cultural scene scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
