Longtime lurker here, I'm a teacher here and With a population of 18,168, Bluffdale is a small town. The median home value here is around $652,000, which is pretty steep. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Thoughts? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in engineering. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 35, moved here 4 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Lakewood and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Close to major attractions
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Summers can be brutally hot
3. The housing market situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for young professionals. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.
No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely excellent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Downtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in East area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Highland for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- The traffic scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..
