Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Phoenix about 2 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Tampa it's tough.
