The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Is this normal for Bogalusa? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Pittsburgh it's solid.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- The food scene scene is tough
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in North area are average. Kids love it here.
