Hi all, Been living here since 2013. Homes are going for about $456,000 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,359 for rent here. Household incomes average around $81,308 in Boise City. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Does this match your experience? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 4 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in West for 14 years. Moved from Phoenix for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Limited shopping options. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
