Hi all, I grew up here but left for a while. Household incomes average around $81,308 in Boise City. It's a a mid-size city city with about 236K people. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Worth the trade-offs?

I've been here 11 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've been in Oak Park for 7 years. Moved from Miami for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Limited entertainment options. And safety can be frustrating.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options
- The nightlife scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
