The median home value here is around $295,500, which seems about average. It's a a smaller city city with about 73,813 people. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Am I overthinking this? Thanks in advance! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development.

I've lived in Riverside for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- The healthcare scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 43, moved here 15 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The dating scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for young professionals. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.
