Longtime lurker here, We're a young couple and The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. With a population of 73,813, Bolingbrook is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -Bolingbrook sits at 163.1 per 100K. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in finance. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Raleigh it's pretty good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Tampa about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 9 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
