Rent vs buy in Bolivar -what makes sense?

I'm retired and The unemployment rate is 10.3%, which is concerning. Household incomes average around $38,575 in Bolivar. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in The Heights area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 32, moved here 7 years ago from Denver. I've lived in The Heights and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Winters are long and cold
3. The housing market situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for singles. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Minneapolis it's challenging.
