My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 10 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Oak Park area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Pine Hills for 8 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Pine Hills schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Property taxes are high. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Tampa about 4 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is excellent.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Tampa it's surprisingly good.
