Alright, Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What are your go-to spots? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 3 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is solid in most areas.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- The dating scene scene is average
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- The cultural scene scene is improving
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
