Couple moving to Bonney Lake from out of state

I work in engineering and Homes are going for about $558,900 on average. It's a a small town city with about 22,776 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Bonney Lake sits at 162.2 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Appreciate any input. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely better than expected and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Westside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.
