What surprised you most about Boone?

Hi all, Average temperature is around 48--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Boone sits at 289.2 per 100K. With a population of 12,445, Boone is a small town. Rent is about $791/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Lakewood area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.
