Boone is underrated, change my mind

Hey folks, Born and raised here. Rent is about $1,080/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $373,600, which seems about average. Household incomes average around $28,633 in Boone. Homes are going for about $373,600 on average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Lakewood. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like sushi.
