Worst things about Boone nobody talks about

Random thought, I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $1,080/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $373,600, which seems about average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Is this normal for Boone?

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Pine Hills area are average. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 10 years. Moved from Nashville for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is decent - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Dating scene is rough. And cost of living can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
