Why I chose Boonton over bigger cities

First post here. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and You can expect to pay around $1,761 for rent here. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. The unemployment rate is 4.4%, which is about average. Household incomes average around $100,417 in Boonton. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Growing food scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- High property taxes
- Boring for young people
- Limited cultural events
Has anyone dealt with this? The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Austin about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in real estate. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
