Been meaning to ask this. I grew up here but left for a while. With a population of 2,627, Boron is a small town. You can expect to pay around $981 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Anyone in a similar situation?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in tech. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely challenging and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely decent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (The Heights) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

I've lived in West for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The community vibe scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.
