Just moved here 3 months ago and Median household income is $94,755, which feels pretty solid for the area. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Should I be concerned? The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in construction. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Italian.
No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much stable but now it's surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely underrated and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Miami about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is improving.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Feel free to reach out with questions..

People: Generally decent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely average and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Downtown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Fairview for 6 years. Moved from Houston for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Nightlife is limited. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 5/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
