Networking events in Boston?

Alright here goes,

I just moved to South End from San Francisco. The parks system here is underrated.

Crime rate at 725.7/100K residents is something to {crime_feel}. Property values in Beacon Hill went up 12% last year alone.

The food scene in South End is honestly incredible. The weather took some getting used to but I actually love it now.

Thoughts?

Homeowner in Allston since 2020. I don't understand why more people don't talk about {hood}.. Property values have dipped slightly but recovered which is concerning for affordability.

Worked in real estate here for 2 years. The weather took some getting used to but I actually love it now.. The market is decent right now if you're in that field.

Let me give you the perspective nobody asked for but everyone needs.

I've lived in Back Bay, North End, and currently in Beacon Hill. Each one feels like a different city honestly.

Rent comparison:
- Back Bay: /mo for a 1-bed
- North End: about /mo
- Beacon Hill: /mo but decent

I don't understand why more people don't talk about {hood}.. The key is finding your neighborhood. Once you do, Boston really clicks. Happy to answer questions.

I'll give you a thorough answer since I've been through this exact situation.

I moved to North End from Houston about 12 years ago. Initially I was excited but nervous. But after settling in, The suburbs vs city debate here is real..

A few things I'd recommend:
- Check out North End and Dorchester for housing
- Download the local transit app even if you drive
- Check out the local brewery scene

The biggest adjustment was walkability. Public transit is {transit_feel} - you'll want a car.. Overall I'd give Boston a 9/10 for students.

I moved to North End from Atlanta about 3 years ago. Initially I was overwhelmed. But after settling in, The parks system here is underrated..

A few things I'd recommend:
- Check out North End and Allston for housing
- Check out the local brewery scene
- Visit during different seasons if you can

The biggest adjustment was walkability. The suburbs vs city debate here is real.. Overall I'd give Boston a 9/10 for remote workers.

Alright, I'm going to write the reply I wish someone had written for me when I was researching Boston.

Background: 26, college grad, moved from Dallas 2 years ago for school. Currently in Cambridge.

**Housing:**
The market is solid right now. We went with Cambridge because it was walkable. Paid /mo starting out, now at /mo. If I could do it again, I'd look at Somerville - it's lively and the value is better.

**Work:**
hospitality jobs are growing here. I was worried coming from Dallas but the market is mixed. Salary-wise, expect it varies wildly by field.

**Social Life:**
This was my biggest worry. First 15 months were tough. Then I found my people through my gym. Now I have a solid group. Boston people are friendly once you break through.

**Day to Day:**
- Groceries: manageable
- Traffic: depends entirely on your commute route
- Dining out: amazing variety
- Entertainment: you make your own fun here

**Would I move here again?**
Traffic has gotten noticeably worse in the past year.. For singles, I'd give it a 8/10.

Feel free to DM me with specific questions - happy to help fellow newcomers.

Homeowner in Dorchester since 2016. The community in {hood} is really tight-knit.. Property values have increased significantly which is expected given the market.
