Been meaning to ask this. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Median household income is $73,549, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $435,900 on average. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 7 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
construction is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Rising rent and home prices. And public transit can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in tech. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Italian.
