OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in construction. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 26, moved here 7 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Sunset and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The cultural scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**

I've lived in South for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options
- The school system scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
