Curious what people think. I'm single, late 40s, and Average temperature is around 47--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Boulder sits at 256.2 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Anyone in a similar situation?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 8 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 45, moved here 2 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Old Town and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The healthcare situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for singles. excellent vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The safety is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in North for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- The walkability scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The traffic is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely tough and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Sunset) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in retail. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Hope this helps!.
