Should I move to Boulder or stay in Boston?

So, With a population of 106K, Boulder is a mid-size city. Homes are going for about $982,600 on average. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Is this normal for Boulder? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Oak Park area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much established but now it's underrated.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

I've lived in Springfield for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
- The safety scene is improving

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 44, moved here 8 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Eastside and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The housing market situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for young professionals. decent vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely challenging and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Pine Hills for 7 years. Moved from Denver for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is solid - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Pine Hills schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Dating scene is rough. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for singles. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
