How is Bound Brook for outdoor activities?

Hey everyone, I'm a college student here and Poverty rate is 11.0%, which is around average.

I've lived in Highland for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- The housing market scene is average

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 11 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 56, moved here 14 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Oak Park and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The cultural scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in real estate. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Thai.
