Considering Bourbonnais vs Raleigh -help me decide
First post here. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $81,017, which feels pretty solid for the area. Poverty rate is 8.0%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 18,109 people. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I'm a accountant and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Riverside. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The pet-friendliness is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely average and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Riverside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Meadowbrook for 2 years. Moved from San Francisco for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Chain restaurants dominate. And traffic can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Boston about 6 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The housing market is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..
