Couple moving to Bourbonnais from out of state

Hey, Military spouse here. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $81,017 in Bourbonnais. Homes are going for about $242,600 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Bourbonnais sits at 291.0 per 100K. Poverty rate is 8.0%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. TIA! The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The pet-friendliness is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The safety is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..
