Is Bourbonnais still affordable?

I grew up here but left for a while. With a population of 18,109, Bourbonnais is a small town. Rent is about $1,132/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $242,600 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Nice parks and trails
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited public transit
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- Chain restaurants dominate
Any advice would be great. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Old Town. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in education. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

No regrets on my end..
