OK so Been living here since 2016. Crime rate is something to consider -Bowie sits at 99.8 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Old Town) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely underrated and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
