What's it really like living in Bowie?

Hey, The median home value here is around $442,000, which is pretty steep.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Atlanta it's solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Phoenix about 3 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are established, gas is tough.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Midtown area are improving. Kids love it here.

I'm a social worker and I've found it exceeded my expectations. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.
