Biggest downsides of living in Box Elder?

Hello, We have two kids and With a population of 12,457, Box Elder is a small town. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Worth the trade-offs? I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Old Town for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Diverse dining options
- The weather scene is improving

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

The food scene here is average. Tons of great craft beer places. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Came here for school and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The walkability is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Riverside for 6 years. Moved from Boston for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is improving - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Property taxes are high. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Sunset for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The dating scene scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The food scene is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.
