Anyone else feel this way? I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Miami about 10 years ago. The main reasons were family and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Westside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Charlotte about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much growing but now it's pretty good.
