What's it really like living in Boyes Hot Springs?

Longtime lurker here, Homes are going for about $738,800 on average. With a population of 7,031, Boyes Hot Springs is a small town. You can expect to pay around $1,802 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Easy commute
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Limited nightlife
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
- Chain restaurants dominate
Am I overthinking this? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I've been here 4 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 57, moved here 4 years ago from Boston. I've lived in West and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The cost of living situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
