OK so I'm a college student here and The unemployment rate is 20.0%, which is concerning. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in finance. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Indian.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The school system is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

I've lived in East for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The dating scene scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely better than expected and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.
