Random thought, I'm a 50-year-old restaurant manager and It's a a small town city with about 6,404 people. The unemployment rate is 0.8%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $2,322 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. Has anyone dealt with this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 10 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Raleigh about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is improving.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Feel free to reach out with questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
