Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Thoughts? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely underrated and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Riverside for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- The housing market scene is decent
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Minneapolis about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been here 9 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..
