Longtime lurker here, I'm a 48-year-old chef and You can expect to pay around $1,786 for rent here. Poverty rate is 1.6%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 67--F, so the weather is moderate. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Any advice would be great. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Denver it's improving.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from San Francisco about 12 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2022 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
