OK so I'm a college student here and The unemployment rate is 5.4%, which is about average. Household incomes average around $55,417 in Braham. Poverty rate is 17.3%, which is higher than I expected. The median home value here is around $191,600, which is actually reasonable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Would love some local perspective. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 2 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Came here for school and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor recreation is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Indian.

I've been here 14 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've been here 11 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Cedar Grove for 10 years. Moved from Boston for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Not very walkable outside downtown. And weather can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
