Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Raleigh about 11 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..
