Curious what people think. I'm a remote worker and With a population of 25,352, Brandon is a smaller city. Median household income is $93,073, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $93,073 in Brandon. Poverty rate is 5.1%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $255,900 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.
Pros:
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Hot summers
- Limited nightlife
- Boring for young people
- Chain restaurants dominate
Thanks! People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in East area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Downtown for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- The public transit scene is tough
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely improving and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Downtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.
